Your chain of information

The blockchain forms a chain of information blocks which protect each other against unauthorized access (see following steps). SMILEdataguard translates every change to your CMDB into code and adds it to this chain.

Optional: High-quality encryption can be used as an add-on

The blocks are cryptographically encoded using strong encryption. As a result, short, meaningless character strings ("hashes") remain, which can only be decoded into comprehensible information with the correct key.

 

Enhance the chain with new information

If a new change is made, it is also encoded and the cryptographic code snippet (hash) is added to the chain. If a setting is undone, the old information will not be removed, instead the remove action added to the chain to keep all steps traceable.

Built-in verification

The data blocks are provided with checksums using a secure procedure (SHA-2). Every change to the data - no matter what – calculates a different checksum. If the checksum does not correspond to the hash code used, manipulation has occurred.

By the way, this also applies to the protection plans with enhanced encryption: Additional to the key which is able to decode all information into usable information ("private key"), it is possible for all parties involved to check the code for correctness at any time (so-called "public key").

For extra security, SMILEdataguard enables you to store your information on multiple servers. Any manipulation would therefore have to be done at all systems simultaneously - which is nearly impossible, especially with protected external servers.
